According to Mayo Clinic and other sources, meditation is a type of mind-body medicine. We can think of it as a Bio-Hack. It has been practiced for thousands of years. It is based on the premise that we have an ability to go inward to quiet the mind and settle the body. (https://www.mayoclinic.org/tests-procedures/meditation/about/pac-20385120)
We have within us a source of energy - an infinite source of energy - that we are expressing as our life, as our thoughts feelings and desires. This source of energy that resides within us, has an auto catalytic or automatic expression: it goes by itself and it expresses by its own will.
Some people call this source Quantum Field or Unified Field. Some people call it Creative Intelligence. It’s all the same form with many different names. It’s all the same energy. This energy moves within us creating the physical, mental and emotional qualities that form our life.
As humans we can reverse engineer the outward expression of this energy from its source so that we can literally tap into that source of energy, and have more control over our thoughts feelings and desires. Over time, we can choose how we want our life to be and how we want our life to look.
Before we have the ability to tap into that source of energy, we are at the mercy of whatever our blueprint wants to express. We make choices on a surface level without having an understanding of the effects of our choices. While they may seem to be good choices, those choices may actually have a bad outcome.
We want to have good outcomes in all aspects of our life. We must have the ability to think and perceive on subtle levels of thought and feeling so that we can pick and choose outcomes before they sprout in the material world. Self Recognition Meditation SRM™ allows us to effortlessly think at subtle levels. Hence, we have more control over our life.
The Self Recognition Meditation SRM™ organization offers a variety of meditation classes and workshops. The techniques are based on ancient practices from India. One of those practices is called Bhavateet Dhyana (meditation that transcends thoughts and emotions - moving toward the Infinite. In other words, transcending or going beyond the outward experience and entering into a profound inner experience of the Self). More information is available in FAQ/Downloads, including definitions of various concepts and our lineage.
Bhavateet Dhyan is taught by Dandi Swamis and was taught by Swami Brahmananda Saraswati, Shankarcharya of Jyotir Math. In addition, our approach includes knowledge from literature cognized and expounded upon by an ancient Rishis. These ancient traditions inform us of the deep and profound process and experience of recognizing one's true nature. For more information on our lineage, go to FAQ Downloads.
The knowledge base that supports our program is both Vedic and pre Vedic. It begins thousands of years, starting with the work of Brahmarishi Mayan. He cognized how Pure Consciousness transforms itself into the material world (a process called vastureva vaastu). Our knowledge base therefore includes, Mayonic Science (named after Brahmarishi Mayan), Pranava Veda, Veda, Kashmiri Shaivism, Sri Vidya and other ancient traditions. These fields of inquiry were originally focused on the science of developing consciousness.
Over time, due to a loss of knowledge, many studies and methods for developing consciousness became religious beliefs and superstitions. We at SRM, have returned to the original knowledge of these sciences for developing consciousness. We are neutral in religious matters. Any individual can practice SRM while following his or her own professed religion with no conflict.
Self Recognition Meditation™ is a mantra meditation with a unique mantra selection process. Unlike other meditations in which mantra selection is based on age or some other surface method, the mantras we select are individually chosen to be vibrationally matched with the student's own internal vibration. This method of mantra selection is unique to our program, as it has been long forgotten through time.
The SRM method of how to use the mantra differs significantly from any other mantra meditation and it leads to a profound expanded awareness. With most transcending meditations there is a loss of awareness that can lead to feeling "spaced out." This meditation leads to an expanded awareness while in the transcendent state. That expanded awareness eventually leads to an overall experience of expanded awareness during waking, dreaming, and deep sleep. This may result in greater creativity, peace of mind, and more productivity.
Our program of Self Recognition Meditation SRM™, a mindful transcending meditation technique, provides a simple, effective, and effortless path to to help you on your personal journey to develop your life in an integrated manner.
Submit to a daily practice. Your loyalty to that is a knock on the door of your Inner Being. Keep knocking, and the joy inside will eventually open a window and look out to see who's there. Rumi

At Self Recognition Meditation, we believe that meditation is for everyone. Whether you are new to meditation or have been practicing for years, our programs are designed to meet you where you are and help you deepen your practice. We believe that meditation is a powerful tool for transforming your life and the world around you.
We have deepened the process of meditation based on knowledge from Seers in our lineage. Over 55 years of association with the works of these great sages had inspired Self Recognition Meditation SRM™
The fundamental knowledge of meditation is derive from an ancient lineage demonstrated by Swami Brahmananda Saraswati, and the Dandi Swamis of India. It is ultimately linked with Kashmiri Shaivism and Sri Vidya, and Vedic knowledge which appear to be linked to the ancient tradition of Brahmarishi Mayan.
The profound wisdom of other Rishis and Sages has also contributed to our SRM™ knowledge base. (See Our Lineage section)
Due to foreign rule for over a thousand years, some of the ancient knowledge of India was lost or buried. We, through our association with great seers like Dr. V. Ganapati Sthapati have come to understand perviously unknown information about Consciousness. We apply this knowledge to our meditation program.
Hence, we have an easy and effortless transcending meditation unlike any other available today. we learned in our research and experience that mantras must be individually selected through vibrational matching so that the individual is harmonious with the qualities of the mantra. In addition to teaching new meditators, we can check the vibrational harmony of individuals who have gotten a mantra from other teachers outside of our organization.

Check out this great video. Swami Vivekananda had a huge influence through his Vedanta Societies that he established in the West. He was the first Indian guru to come to the west. His influence on other Gurus remains.
An excerpt from Abhinavagupta’s Tantraloka 14, in this quote, Swami Lakshmanjoo reveals what the real purpose of meditation is.
JOHN: So then, when a person meditates what should be his thought? You say the thought should not be “that I’m going to gain something that I don’t already have.”
SWAMIJI: No, go on meditating and go in giving training, treatment, to your mind for gaining onepointedness. That is all. You have to gain onepointedness with this treatment. And when once you have gained onepointedness, then you can be able to understand the reality of . . .
BRUCE P.: You can’t gain onepointedness in shrunkenness?
SWAMIJI: No.
BRUCE P.: You can’t become onepointed shrunken?
SWAMIJI: No, onepointedness will make you broad.
BRUCE P.: But that’s the feeling that there is something wider?
SWAMIJI: Because as long as onepointedness . . . you see, there is mind and atma; mind and soul are one. In real sense mind and soul are one. Mind is soul, mind is actually soul with various and differentiated thoughts. When these various differentiated thoughts are discarded from mind, this mind will change its form into soul–it will become soul. Mind becomes soul. Soul is mind . . .
DENISE: Mind is in differentiation.
SWAMIJI: . . . soul is un-minded mind, thoughtless mind. Soul is also mind, but thoughtless. When all thoughts and varieties are over, then soul remains, then soul appears. The treatment of mind is for soul, to treat soul, to take the soul to its original state.
What is the original state of soul? Un-minded state.
DENISE: Thoughtlessness.
SWAMIJI: Thoughtlessness.
And once thoughtlessness has been achieved by this mind in the state of soul, then he can understand what is universal soul. Otherwise, it is out of reach of understanding. We can’t . . . as long as we behave with varieties of thoughts, it is out of reach for us to understand these things.
So this is also a must. What? The treatment in meditation, and sadhana, and dharana, and pranayama, and cakrodaya, and “so’ham“, and ajapa all these things, they are treatments not for the achievement of Lord Shiva; these are treatments for gaining the ability of understanding.
